Edgar Degas, born Hilaire-Germain-Edgar De Gas, was a French painter who was born on July 19th, 1834 and died on September 27th, 1917. Degas was an Impressionist artist known for his pastel and oil paintings, as well as his bronze sculptures and prints. He is most famous for his depictions of dancers, which feature prominently in his work. Despite being associated with the Impressionist movement, Degas preferred to be called a realist. Interestingly, he only painted indoors. Some of his most famous works include The Dance Class, Dancer, and Four Dancers. His art can be found in private collections and galleries around the world, and he is considered a legend of the art world.
