The artistic creation shows the ocean side at Scheveningen, on the North Sea coast a couple of miles from The Hague, on a turbulent day on 21 or 22 August 1882. The canvas was made rapidly, en plein air, on an easel at the ocean side, with the breeze preparing sand and almost brushing Vincent Van Gogh off his feet. He figured out how to scratch a large portion of the breeze brushed sand off the thick wet work of art, yet some remaining parts.
